THOMAS PARTEY SCORES A STUNNING GOAL IN ATLETICO'S NEAR WIN OVER VALENCIA

Share

Twenty-six year old Ghanaian defensive midfielder, Thomas Partey, scored an incredible goal in a game that saw Atletico Madrid almost win against Valencia over the weekend in the Spanish La Liga.

Marcos Llorente opened the scoring for the visitors at the Mestalla Stadium on the 15th minute but Gabriel Paulista equalized through a header 25 minutes later for the home side.

Atletico took charge, with Partey bossing the midfield while more pressure was exerted the hosts.

The stadium was thrown into frenzy when Partey got a second goal for Atletico Madrid, who are fighting to secure a Champions League spot, just two minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes.

The 20-yard strike from the midfielder flew past the goalkeeper, who stretched out his hand despairingly to save it, to give Atletico a 2-1 lead over Valencia, heading into the second half.

The goal was Partey’s second in La Liga and third overall this season, having scored in the Champions League as well, and the visitors were hopeful of a win.

The winning dream of Atletico was cancelled out by Geoffrey Kondogbia who found the back of the net of their opponents on the 59th minute during the second half of the game.

Following Friday’s 2-2 draw with Valencia in La Liga, the Ghana international, Thomas Partey has expressed his optimism that Atlético Madrid will find their rhythm.

Ten time winners of the Spanish La Liga, Atletico have just one win in their last five league matches, drawing two and losing two and stay in fourth place in the standings.

Partey, who acknowleged the effort of their opponents in the weekend game has said, "Valencia play well and are strong at their stadium. We have to keep working hard because results will come if we do so," Partey added.

The Madrid-based side next assignment is a crunch Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie at home to Liverpool on Tuesday.
