Tiger Woods teamed up with Peyton Manning to clinch victory over Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in a charity golf match in the rain at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, on Sunday.
Dubbed "The Match: Champions for Charity," the match raised $20 million for several organizations assisting with COVID-19 relief efforts, including relief for frontline workers, small businesses, and those in desperate need of food as a result of the pandemic.
Woods and Manning won the match by one hole. They were victorious in three of the first six holes but had to hang on for the win after Brady and Mickelson got within 1.
“I know Tom and I were kind of comparing notes and feelings to each other,” Manning said. “To go behind the ropes in these guys’ world and kind of be in the arena with them, it was a really special experience. I was not comfortable the entire time, from the first tee all the way down here.”
The players were allowed to bet on the game, which allowed Brady to win an extra $100,000 for a chip-in on hole seven.
"That's why you're the goat, Tom Brady," tweeted Brooks Koepka, who grew up in Palm Beach County and is a Medalist member, moments after watching Brady hole out for birdie.
Woods, playing alongside former Denver Broncos quarterback Manning, spoke highly about both quarterbacks after the match.
"I take my hat off to Tom and Peyton," said Woods. "This is our arena, this is what we do for a living. I couldn't imagine going on the field and do what they do."
The four icons - Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady - have combined won 20 majors and eight Super Bowl titles.
The PGA Tour is set to resume on June 11 with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. There will be no spectators for the first four events.
