Trade Blockbuster: Clint Capela Heads To Atlanta Hawks

The Houston Rockets has on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, traded their new center signee, Clint Capela to the Atlanta Hawks, in a four team - 12 players agreement involving, Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets.

The trade as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Rockets has acquired Covington and Jordan Bell from the Wolves and the Hawks' 2024 second-round pick.

The Hawks has gotten Capela and Nene from the Rockets. The Nuggets has grabbed the Wolves' Keita Bates-Diop, Shabazz Napier, Noah Vonleh, the Rockets' Gerald Green (who is injured) and Houston's first-round pick in 2020.

The Wolves has bought the Nuggets' Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez and Jarred Vanderbilt as well as the Hawks' Evan Turner and the Hawks' 2020 first-round pick via the Brooklyn Nets.

The spotlight of the trade is however on Capela and Covington. The Rockets has received the “three point shooting and defense (3-and-D)” wing it coveted, while the Hawks land a young, athletic, rim-running big to play with All-Star guard Trae Young.

It is expected that, Capela’s strong roll game would provide Young and Atlanta with a dangerous pick-and-roll threat to complement Collins up front.

On the side of the Timberwolves, they have also received Covington, who is regarded as one of the league's prototypical 3-and-D wings, capable of playing strong multi-positional defense.
