Tunisia through to Nations Cup; Morocco one point short of progress

Tunisia became the third side to book their place in the African Nations Cup following a 1-1 draw with Tanzania on Tuesday, while Morocco moved to within touching distance of reaching the Cameroon finals after beating Central Africa 2-0.

An 11th-minute goal from Saif-Eddine Khaoui gave Tunisia the lead before Feisal Salum equalised for Tunisia early in the second half.

However, the draw was enough to send the Carthage Eagles to the Nations Cup as they top Group J with 10 points, six clear of third-placed Tanzania with two games to spare and with a better head-to-head record. The other two teams to seal their progress are Senegal and Algeria.

Elsewhere, Morocco cemented their place on top of Group E with ten points after overcoming Central Africa.

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech opened the scoring in the 39th minute and Olympiacos striker Youssef El Arabi wrapped up the win in stoppage time.

Morocco are one point short of securing a berth at the Nations Cup, which will take place in Cameroon in early 2022.

In Group D, DR Congo kept their hopes alive after defeating Angola 1-0 away, thanks to a 64th-minute goal from Neeskens Kebano.

DR Congo are third in the group with six points, just one behind joint leaders Gambia and Gabon, who have seven points each.

In Group L, Nigeria were held to another draw by Sierra Leone but remained on top with eight points.

The Super Eagles settled for a goalless stalemate with Sierra Leone, four days after surrendering a three-goal lead to draw 4-4 with the same opponents.

Sierra Leone are third in the group with three points, four behind second-place Lesotho.
