The record-breaking performance, which took place at the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks, marked a staggering 49-second improvement on the previous record, set in 2021. Kiplimo’s achievement was all the more impressive given that he was competing under ideal conditions, with temperatures of 13 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit) and no wind. Throughout the race, he maintained a blistering average pace of approximately 2:41 per kilometre, setting a new world best of 39:47 for the 15 km mark.

Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Kiplimo expressed his excitement and elation. “I’m thrilled with what I’ve accomplished today,” he said. “I started strong and pushed myself to have a great race, but I didn’t expect to break the world record.” As the race progressed, Kiplimo realized he was on record pace and remained resolute, telling himself that he had to maintain that pace no matter what it took. This determination paid off, as he crossed the finish line with a time that not only shattered the world record but also set a new benchmark for future athletes.
