Wahab Powers Black Maidens Past Canada and Into Round of 16

Player of the Match Seidatu Wahab led Ghana to a 2-0 win over Canada, and the Black Maidens now face Argentina in the knockout round.

Ghana's Black Maidens are into the Round of 16, and captain Seidatu Wahab led the way. The midfielder was named Player of the Match as Ghana beat Canada 2-0 in a qualification decider.

Linda Achiaa and Christiana Ashiaku got the goals, but Wahab's control in the middle of the pitch shaped the game. She was combative and composed, and she set the tone for a team that refused to leave its fate to chance. The win sends Ghana into a knockout date with Argentina on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Wahab was open about her recent form. She said the last few matches had not gone her way, but she saw this game as the moment to lift herself. "This is the qualification match, so I have to bring my all out," she said.

The captain also made clear that a draw was never the plan. "We really came for a win. That's the only thing we came for. No draw, no loss, but a win," she said, adding that she wanted to show leadership when it mattered.

That mentality carried Ghana through. Now the Black Maidens turn to Argentina, with momentum and a captain who has found her best level at the right time.
