Why Arsenal mass sacked its long-serving scouting team

Arsenal’s Technical Director Edu has opened up on why the club has laid off many of its long-serving scouting staff. According to him, leading a small and close-knit recruitment team currently serves the team better. The Gunners recently reviewed their scouting network, with the head of recruitment Francis Cagigao axed. Cagigao had worked at the club for almost 24 years and is credited with the captures of Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla, Nacho Monreal, and Gabriel Martinel. His trusted backroom staff, including Brian McDermott, Peter Clark, and Ty Gooden, have also been let go by Arsenal. But explaining the rationale behind the dismissals, said he prefers to work with a smaller team as they focus on StatDNA. “It is clear to me. I want to work with fewer people,” Arsenal’s Technical Director said, as quoted by Goal. https://twitter.com/Arsenal/status/1304033415080148992 “I want to work with StatDNA a lot more, which we have internally here at the club and is very important. The people I want to work with, I want them to be very close to me. I want to create a group of people working together. “I don’t want individual people working in one area or for one country. I want a group working together. Less people with much more responsibilities. “That is my vision and for me, in this process, the most important thing is that everyone is very clear on the responsibilities which everyone has to make the right decision,” he added. Arsenal have also announced that head coach Mikel Arteta has now been made manager of the club.
