WNBA Finals: Seattle Storm beat Las Vegas Aces to win fourth title

Share

Seattle Storm has won the 2019/2020 edition of the WNBA Finals for a record-equalling fourth time.

They beat Las Vegas Aces by  92-59 to seal a 3-0 series win.

Storm has now joined the Houston Comets and Minnesota Lynx as teams with the most titles in WNBA history.

The game’s standout player was Breanna Stewart. She registered 26 points.

Their 2019/2020 WNBA season took place inside a quarantined campus in Florida because of the coronavirus outbreak.

After the game, Storm guard Jewell Loyd dedicated the win to former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

"For me, this season, I had to pay tribute to him," said Loyd, who had previously worked on her game with Bryant.

"This is my first season without him. I just focused in. He's the first person to ever believe in me before I got into the league. It's special,” She noted.

She also paid glowing tribute BreonnaTaylor, the African-American who was shot dead by police in her home during a botched raid in March.

The WNBA has now become the second North American professional sports league to crown a champion amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The NBA Finals are currently underway, with the Los Angeles Lakers holding a 3-1 lead over the Miami Heat.
