French-Ivorian defender Leny Yoro was sent off as Manchester United's winless run hit five games with a 2-0 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid.
Leny Yoro's night in the Champions League ended in the worst way. The young French-Ivorian defender was shown a red card as Manchester United went down 2-0 to Atletico Madrid, leaving a talented centre-back under real pressure.
United were behind almost immediately, conceding in the opening minute. From there they were chasing the game against one of Europe's most organised and stubborn sides, and that is a brutal position to be in.
Yoro's dismissal then left United with ten men for the rest of the match. Atletico, who thrive when they can sit deep, defend their lead and pick their moments, were ideally placed to see the game out.
The defeat stretches United's winless run to five matches, and the questions around their form are getting louder. For Yoro, a player with a big reputation and plenty of admirers across the diaspora, the focus now is on bouncing back from a harsh European lesson and proving he can handle the biggest stages.
