Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named the best player in this season’s Europa League competition. He scored 10 goals in 13 matches while playing for his French team Marseille, who reached the semi-finals. This announcement was made by the European Football Association on Friday.
In this season’s edition, Italian Atalanta won the title by defeating German Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final. The 34-year-old Gabonese player became the competition’s all-time top scorer by scoring 34 goals, surpassing Colombian Radamel Falcao’s record of 30 goals.
The former striker, who played for Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Arsenal in England, and Barcelona in Spain, arrived in Marseille last summer from Chelsea in England. He played a major role in his team’s journey in the continental competition this season, but the adventure ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Atalanta. Atalanta won the second leg 3-0 after the two teams tied 1-1 in the first leg.
