Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has been named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season after a phenomenal debut at Bayer Leverkusen.
The 2023/24 Bundesliga season has been a thrilling ride, and one player who has stolen the show is Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. The young striker has been making waves with his impressive performances, earning him the Rookie of the Month award four times (August, September, October and November) and now, the overall Rookie of the Season title.
After joining Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer, Boniface really hit the ground running, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in just 12 Bundesliga appearances. His impressive form also earned him a senior debut for Nigeria in September. He kept going in December with a further three strikes and two more provisions in four league outings.
Despite facing a setback with a muscle injury in January that kept him out until April, Boniface returned with a bang, scoring a goal and setting up another on his comeback. His contributions have been instrumental in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win and their push for a treble, including the DFB Cup and UEFA Europa League.
Next season, Boniface will have the opportunity to shine on the biggest stage of all – the UEFA Champions League.
