Egyptian giants and African Champions Ahly fly to Qatar on Friday to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup that kicks off on 4 February.
Record nine-time African champions Ahly will start their mission when they face hosts Al-Duhail of Qatar, with the winners scheduled to meet European champions Bayern Munich in the semis.
Qatar will host the Club World Cup from 4 to 11 February with participation of only one representative from six continents.
Ahly finished their last training session at the club’s headquarter before leaving to Qatar with attendance of Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy who aimed to encourage the players before they kick off their campaign.
“We are confident of your ability to put on honourable performance,” Sobhy told Ahly players.

“You represent Egypt in this international tournament and I hope you will be our best representatives at the World Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane held a meeting with the players, asking them to concentrate on putting on a superb show.
“All the players who will fly to Qatar have tested negative for COVID-19 after they underwent PCR tests ahead of the flight,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
Ahly made five previous appearances at the Club World Cup, the last of which was in 2013. Their best result was a third-place finish in the 2006 edition in Japan but, otherwise, their participations were disappointing.
