Greece progressed into the quarter-finals of EuroBasket 2025 as leader Giannis Antetokounmpo sank 37 points to see his side to an 84-79 victory over a stubborn Israel on Sunday night in Riga.
As usual, Antetokounmpo was Greece’s beacon. He led his team’s play and finished the game with extraordinary numbers, which surprised no one: 37 points, 10 rebounds.
Greece controlled the game from the start but could not get away during the game, as they faced a more than remarkable Israel team.

Avdija holds Israel
At half-time, the Greek team had a nine-point lead (50-41). Israel got closer in the second half. They have a huge player in Deni Avdija, who scored 22 points. Despite the fact that the Greek lead was considerable, the Israelis did not stop believing until the end, when they were only down by five points (84-79).

Greece’s top scorer, apart from Anteto, Kostas Sloukas scored 11 points. No one else reached double figures, which allows us to appreciate the Milwaukee Bucks player’s ascendancy in his national team.
For Israel, in addition to Avdija, Roman Sorkin and Tomer Ginat each scored 15 points and Yam Madar had 10. Greece will face Lithuania in the quarter-finals.
