Kylian Mbappe is poised to acquire an 80% stake in Caen, a second-division club, for €20 million ($21.6 million).
The 24-year-old superstar, who recently joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain, will become the majority owner of the Normandy-based team, purchasing the shares from American investors Oaktree, according to Le Parisien.
The 2018 World Cup winner almost joined Caen as a teenager before eventually signing for Monaco.
The club has a rich history, having won Ligue 2 twice since its establishment in 1913.
Notable former players include Mbappe’s France teammate N’Golo Kante and former French defender William Gallas.
Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2 last season and will begin their new campaign against Paris FC on August 17.
