Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka has captured her second US Open title after making light work of Victoria Azarenka in the final.

The 22-year-old won two of three sets in the final, culminating in her second title in three years and third overall major championship.

Very few people were in the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday, September 12, 2020, to witness the game, but the applauses were reverberating.

Many tipped Azarenka to give Osaka a tough challenge, having eliminated Serena Williams in the semi-finals.

However, the Belarusian couldn’t stand the might of her younger opponent, losing by 1-6 6-3 6-3.

“I was thinking about all the times I’ve watched the great players sort of collapse onto the ground and look up into the sky,” Osaka said after the game.

“I’ve always wanted to see what they saw… I think I just got through it because during quarantine I wanted to set myself up to possibly win this tournament.

“I felt like I just worked so hard, I wanted to give myself an opportunity,” she added.

Osaka will now head to the French Open to do what she did two years ago and win the subsequent major.
