The victory for Poirier marks his second straight. McGregor, who was previously the UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, has lost two out of his last three fights. Poirier entered the night as the heavy underdog.
The fight capped an exciting evening of action between the main card and undercards. Social media immediately erupted following the TKO by Poirier with many shocked at what unfolded.
Several players from around the NBA took to Twitter to share their reactions.
