Victor Osimhen has been announced as Lille’s Player of the Season following his eye-catching displays in the 2019-20 campaign.
Following an impressive season after scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in the French top-flight, Osimhen has been rewarded with the player of the season award at the French Ligue 1 club.
The Nigeria international beat off competition from Benjamin Andre and Renato Sanches to clinch the individual accolade, according to a statement on the club website.
He was named the Ligue 1 Player of the Month for September and helped Lille to finish fourth in the league table.
The Former Wolfsburg forward is still in the race for the Marc Vivien Foe award – a laurel for the best African Player in Ligue – along with his Super Eagles teammate, Moses Simon who was also named Nantes’s player of the season.
Osimhen played a part in Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, managing only 45 minutes of football in the tournament.
Osimhen broke into the limelight at the 2015 U17 World Cup in Chile, where he shone, helping the Golden Eaglets to win the title.
The young striker scooped the Golden Boot and Silver Ball awards which earned him the Caf Youth Player of the Year prize in 2015.
