Serena Williams has been eliminated from the US Open after a disappointing loss to Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals.
Williams started the contest brightly with a 1-6 win in the first set, but lost momentum, losing 6-3 6-3 in the subsequent sets.
The defeat means the 38-year-old will have to wait a bit longer to win a 24th Grand Slam singles title.
Williams appeared to suffer an Achilles problem early in the third set and struggled physically in her play.

Azarenka was, however, full of energy and was impressive in what was her first Grand Slam semi-final since in seven years.
“I needed to find the energy to climb out of the hole and it wasn’t easy,” the two-time Australian Open champion said after the game.
“Hopefully it inspires women to go after their dreams, they can do anything.”
Meanwhile, Azarenka will now face Japan’s 2018 champion Naomi Osaka in the final of this year’s US Open.
