Temitope Adeshina Makes History at NCAA Championships, Qualifies for Paris Olympics

Temitope Adeshina, a freshman at Texas Tech University, has become the latest Nigerian athlete to secure a spot at the Paris Olympic Games.

Her outstanding performance at the NCAA Championships saw her set a new personal best and national record in the high jump event.

Adeshina cleared an impressive height of 1.97m, placing third behind Rose Yeboah and Elena Kulichenko, who also achieved the same height.

This achievement marked a historic moment, as Adeshina became the first Nigerian woman to medal in the high jump event at the NCAA Championships.

Breaking Doreen Amata’s long-standing national record of 1.95m, set in 2011, Adeshina demonstrated her remarkable progress this season.

She had previously cleared a personal best of 1.96m in the indoor season, also breaking Amata’s record of 1.93m. Now, she holds both the indoor and outdoor national records.

Adeshina’s Olympic qualification makes her the second Nigerian woman, after Amata, to compete in the high jump event at the Games.

With her sights set on Paris, she aims to make another historic performance and potentially become the first Nigerian woman to clear the 2.00m mark.
