Ghana sit bottom of Group C without a point, but the former midfielder insists the Black Stars can still fight their way back.
Ghana legend Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu is refusing to write off the Black Stars. Despite two defeats in two games, he believes the four-time African champions can revive their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
It has been a painful start for Ghana in Group C. The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire, then went down 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. That leaves them pointless at the bottom of the table, and their hopes of reaching the tournament are under real pressure.
The next chance to fix things comes in November, when Ghana face Somalia in a double-header. Agyemang-Badu, who played in Italy for Udinese, says he is optimistic the team can pick up wins in those games and get back into the race.
The 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner also had a message for the technical team: look at the domestic league. He argues that local players in form deserve a real shot at national team duty, especially while Ghana rebuild after this opening setback. "Let's give local players the chance they deserve," he said.
An interim technical team is expected to guide the Black Stars through this testing period. The two Somalia fixtures now look like a big test of Ghana's response.
