Ghana's Ampem Darkoa could land in a Group B showdown with defending champions AS FAR, but Edo Queens stand in the way first.
Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies are one result away from a heavyweight Group B date with reigning African champions AS FAR at the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League in Egypt. First, though, they must get past Nigeria's Edo Queens in a WAFU Zone B final that still isn't settled.
If the Ghanaian champions book their ticket, they will join Morocco's AS FAR, Uganda's Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Mali's USFAS Bamako in the group. The tournament runs from November 1 to 15, giving Ampem a big continental stage to test themselves against some of the best sides on the continent.
The road to Egypt has been anything but straightforward. Edo Queens appeared to have won the WAFU-B final in Ouagadougou on September 5, taking a 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory after a 2-2 draw. CAF later overturned that result because of a procedural error, and the CAF Appeal Board backed that decision in a ruling dated October 16, rejecting Edo Queens' challenge.
The outcome: both teams must return to finish the job, restarting from the beginning of extra time with the score level at 2-2. Two 15-minute periods will be played, and penalties will follow if nothing separates the sides. With a place in the Champions League on the line, the pressure could hardly be higher.
Elsewhere, Group A features South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, hosts FC Masar of Egypt, Morocco's FUS Rabat and Cameroon's Leki Football Girls. Whoever emerges from the WAFU-B decider will walk into a stacked field, and for Ampem Darkoa the chance to put Ghanaian women's football on that stage is within reach.
