Ghana's Ampem Darkoa want to settle their WAFU B decider with Nigeria's Edo Queens inside 30 minutes of extra time and skip the penalty drama.
Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Nigeria's Edo Queens meet again in Cairo on Thursday, October 29, in a West African heavyweight showdown with the zone's only ticket to the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League on the line. Ampem coach Charles Anokye Frimpong has made his intentions clear: finish the job in extra time and keep penalties out of it.
The tie picks up from the start of extra time, with the score locked at 2-2 from the original final in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5. Edo Queens first walked away winners, taking a 4-1 shootout, but that result did not stand.
Ampem Darkoa lodged a protest over the decision to go straight to penalties without playing extra time. CAF's Appeal Board upheld it on October 16 and ordered the teams to play two 15-minute periods, with a fresh shootout to follow if they are still level.
Anokye says his squad is ready for the challenge. The Ghanaian champions planned a final pre-activation session on the eve of the game to polish their approach, and the coach insists his players are determined to get the result over 30 minutes rather than gamble on spot-kicks.
For Ghana, it is a second chance at continental football. For Nigeria, a chance to reclaim a place they thought they had already won. Either way, one West African giant will be heading to the 2026 Champions League, and the other will be left to wonder what might have been.
