Ghana's champions edged Nigeria's Edo Queens 3-2 to reach the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League, and they're thanking everyone who backed them.
Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies are heading back to the continental stage. They beat Nigeria's Edo Queens 3-2 on Thursday in the resumed WAFU Zone B qualifying final in Egypt, securing a place in the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.
The result also capped a battle off the pitch. Club president Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II credited GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, who led the club's petition and then won the appeal that got the decisive match back on the calendar. He also thanked GFA President Edwin Kurt Simeon-Okraku for his leadership and encouragement along the way.
The president's gratitude went well beyond the boardroom. He thanked Ghana's other women's clubs, the supporters and Ghanaians in general, saying their different forms of backing helped carry the team over the line.
This will be the club's second appearance in the competition, after their 2023 debut. They impressed then, reaching the semi-finals and finishing among the top four teams in Africa. Having shown what they can do on the big stage, the Ghanaian champions will be aiming to match or better that run.
