Ghana's James Ampofo bagged a goal and an assist as Esbjerg clawed back from behind three times to snatch a stoppage-time point against Aalborg.
Ghanaian forward James Ampofo was the heartbeat of Esbjerg FB's wild 3-3 draw with Aalborg in the Betinia Liga, netting one and setting up another in a fightback that refused to die.
Esbjerg were behind inside seven minutes when Jonathan Foss turned the ball into his own net. Ampofo wasted no time hitting back, finishing off a Nicklas Strunck pass in the ninth minute to pull the hosts level. Mathias Kübel put Aalborg back in front in the 26th minute, but Ampofo turned creator shortly before the interval, teeing up Muamer Brajanac to make it 2-2 and send the sides in level.
The second half stayed tense and tight until the 89th minute, when Marcus Kaasa struck to put Aalborg ahead for the third time and seemingly steal all three points. Esbjerg had other ideas. Lasse Vigen popped up in stoppage time with the equaliser, set up by Patrick Tjørnelund, to rescue a point at the death.
Fans voted Ampofo player of the match, and he earned an 8.0 Sofascore rating for his display. The Ghanaian now has two goals and one assist in five league outings this season, a promising return as he settles into life in Denmark.
Esbjerg's next test comes against Aarhus on October 16, and Ampofo will be aiming to keep his fine early form rolling.
