Diaspora star Angel Reese looks to snap a two-game scoring slump as Atlanta faces the Valkyries in a pivotal WNBA Finals Game 6.
Angel Reese, the American star whose African diaspora ties make her a figure many fans across the continent watch closely, heads into Game 6 of the WNBA Finals with a point to prove. The Atlanta Dream forward has been the headline act of this series, and she wants her spark back when Golden State hosts the Dream.
Reese was dominant in Games 2 and 3, scoring 30 and 21 points as Atlanta won both. Then the Valkyries tightened the screws. She managed eight points and nine rebounds in Game 4, followed by seven points and 15 boards in Game 5. It was the first time all season she had scored in single digits in back-to-back games.
She is not wavering. After the Game 5 loss, Reese said she still believes in her team and its ability to win this series, and she stressed that the Dream will take it one game at a time and get back to who they are.
There is a side story too. The Dream have said their concerns about the early 12:30pm start went unheeded, adding another layer of pressure to an already tense night. Reese is still producing on the glass even while her scoring dips, so Atlanta will be looking to turn those rebounds into points and get her offense going again.
