Substitute Kwesi Asmah pounced late in Tema to give Hearts of Oak a 1-0 win over Vision FC and back-to-back Ghana Premier League victories.
Hearts of Oak are finding their rhythm in the Ghana Premier League, and Kwesi Asmah delivered the late drama in Tema. The substitute struck in the 86th minute to beat Vision FC 1-0 at the Nii Adjei Kraku Complex on Saturday afternoon, giving the Phobians their second straight league win.
It was far from a classic. The contest was cagey and largely played in midfield, with little real action in either box. Hearts had slightly more of the ball, but Vision carved out the better chances and looked the more likely side to break the deadlock.
That changed when Vision's defence made a costly mistake. A poor clearance dropped into the box right in front of the 23-year-old Asmah, who made no mistake and fired home with his left foot. Earlier in the second half, goalkeeper Benjamin Asare had kept Hearts in the game with an excellent save to deny the hosts an opener. Vision will be left frustrated after a spirited display in which they failed to convert their opportunities.
The result follows Hearts' narrow win over Port City and extends their recovery after an inconsistent start to the season. The three points also lift them level on points with league leaders Medeama, who play Samartex on Sunday. The title race is tightening, and Hearts are suddenly right in it.
