Ghana's Black Queens thrashed Mauritius 7-0 at Essipong, and coach Kim Lars Björkegren says the roaring home crowd kept his players hungry for more.
Ghana's Black Queens turned Essipong Stadium into a fortress, hammering Mauritius 7-0 in the second leg of their LA 2028 Olympic qualifier, and head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has handed a big share of the credit to the supporters in the stands.
The Swedish tactician said he was thrilled with the atmosphere and would gladly bring his side back to the same venue. "We did it together today," he said, stressing that the crowd made a real difference to how his team performed and that he had nothing to complain about.
Björkegren said the fans were especially valuable once Ghana had pulled far ahead. With the Black Queens leading 6-0 at the break, he admitted it would have been easy for the players to feel the job was done. Instead, he said, they came out wanting to show a little more, and he believes the noise and energy from the terraces helped drive that.
The result sealed a comprehensive 10-0 aggregate triumph for Ghana and moves the Black Queens on in the race for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. For a side chasing Olympic history, a home crowd that lifts the team when the scoreboard says relax is exactly the kind of edge Björkegren will want to carry into the next round.
