Ghana's Black Maidens bounced back from a rocky start to reach the knockouts, and now face unbeaten Argentina in Morocco.
Africa's flag is still flying in Morocco. Ghana's Black Maidens have booked a FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Round of 16 date with unbeaten Argentina on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after a tournament that has already tested their nerve.
Joe Nana Adarkwa's side opened Group C with a 3-0 loss to Norway, then answered with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil. Needing a result against Canada, they delivered a 2-0 win. Substitute Linda Achiaa broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, and Christiana Ashiaku sealed it in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Four points was enough to send Ghana through as one of Group C's top two.
The next challenge is a big one. Argentina won their group without losing and arrive as favourites, with a game built on technical quality and physical intensity. The Black Maidens will need to be sharp and disciplined from the first whistle.
Adarkwa is expected to keep most of the XI that beat Canada. Seidatu Wahab, named Player of the Match in that win, is tipped to play a central role, while Jessica Appiah should again be key in midfield. Ghana's bench also made a real impact against Canada, and that depth could matter again in a knockout tie.
