Ghana's young stars recovered from a Norway loss to hold Brazil in a six-goal thriller, and coach Nana Adarkwah says the best is still to come.
Ghana's Black Maidens showed real fighting spirit at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, battling to a 3-3 draw with Brazil in their second Group C game on Wednesday. It was a big response from a side that had opened the tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Norway.
Coach Nana Adarkwah was proud of his players but admitted the result could have been even better. After pulling level, Ghana created plenty of chances to take all three points, but they could not find the finishing touch to put Brazil away.
"We did very well. We are in one of the toughest groups, but I'm proud of my girls," Adarkwah said. He pointed out that the squad is young and still learning, with plenty of work ahead, but said he was happy with what he saw.
The coach also showed respect for Brazil's standing in the women's game while backing his own team to close the gap. "Brazil are up there. We are getting stronger, and we will get there," he said. For West African women's football, a performance like this against a South American powerhouse is an encouraging sign for the talent pipeline.
Ghana now turn to their final Group C fixture, against Canada on Saturday, 24 October. The Black Maidens will be looking to carry the energy from the Brazil game into that match and finish the group stage on a high.
