Despite a 3-0 opening loss to Norway, the GFA insists Ghana's Black Maidens can still fight their way out of Group C in Morocco.
Ghana's Black Maidens have taken a heavy early blow at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, but the Ghana Football Association is refusing to write off their campaign. Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says the 3-0 defeat to Norway in the Group C opener hurts, but it does not close the door on the knockout rounds.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Asante Twum admitted the team did not begin the tournament the way they wanted. His message was still clear: all is not lost. Head coach Joe Nana Adarkwa and his squad now have a job to do, and the GFA believes they have the quality to do it.
The reset comes quickly. Ghana face Brazil in their second group game on Thursday, 22 October, with kick-off at 18:00 GMT at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. A positive result is close to essential if the Black Maidens want to keep their qualification hopes alive, and it would give them a big confidence boost.
The group stage finishes on Saturday, 24 October, when Ghana take on Canada, with kick-off set for 15:00 GMT. With two matches left, the Black Maidens still have time to turn a slow start into a real run. All eyes will be on how they respond against Brazil.
