Ghana's U-17 women face a tricky Round of 16 test in Rabat, and coach Joe Nana Adarkwa wants sharper finishing and a tighter back line.
Ghana's Black Maidens are one win away from the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, and coach Joe Nana Adarkwa is making sure nobody in his camp gets carried away. Ghana meet Argentina on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat.
Adarkwa has plenty of respect for the South Americans. He called the tie "very, very, very tricky" and pointed out that knockout football leaves little room for error. His message to the squad is simple: stay disciplined, and don't leave gaps at the back.
The coach also named the issue he wants fixed. Ghana have created plenty of chances in the tournament, he said, but turning them into goals has been a problem. Against a good side in a one-off knockout match, wasted opportunities can be costly, so finishing will be a major focus.
The Black Maidens have already shown their resilience in Morocco, bouncing back after a 3-0 defeat to Norway. Now they have a chance to use that spirit to push on and put Ghana among the last eight at a global tournament.
