Ghana's Cynthia Konlan is up for CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year, while three-time winner Chiamaka Nnadozie misses the cut.
Ghana has a name on the CAF shortlist. Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan has been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award, a reward for her work between the posts at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
Konlan played four matches for Ghana at the tournament, kept one clean sheet and conceded four goals. It was a busy campaign for the shot-stopper, and the nomination shows her efforts have been noticed across the continent.
The competition is stiff. Konlan is up against Nigeria's Christiana Uzoma, Cameroon's Michaely Bihina, Algeria's Chloe N'Gazi and Tanzania's Mercy Sikelo. The rest of the list includes Mali's Fatoumata Karantao, Morocco's Khadija Er-Rmichi, Senegal's Adji Ndiaye, South Africa's Kaylin Swart and Zambia's Hazel Nali.
The biggest talking point is who is missing. Nigeria's Chiamaka Nnadozie, a three-time winner of this award and one of the most celebrated female goalkeepers in Africa, has been left off the list. She will not get the chance to defend her title, which leaves the category more open than it has been in years.
The winner will be revealed at the 2026 CAF Awards on Monday, December 7, 2026, when the best performers in African football over the eligibility period will be honoured.
