Ghana's Black Queens are on the CAF Women's Team of the Year shortlist after a strong WAFCON campaign, and a Lagos showdown awaits in December.
Ghana's Black Queens are officially in the running for continental glory off the pitch. The West Africans have been nominated for CAF Women's Team of the Year ahead of the 2026 CAF Awards in Nigeria, a reward for a spirited run at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Ghana reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, and that performance was enough to put them on a 10-team shortlist. The Black Queens now share the list with some of the continent's biggest names in women's football.
The competition is stacked. Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa and Malawi are all nominated, with Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire and Mali completing the list. It is a mix of established powers and rising nations, and a sign of how deep the women's game has become across Africa.
The winner will be revealed at the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony on Monday, December 7, in Lagos, Nigeria. For Ghana, the nomination is another step in the Black Queens' push to reclaim a place at the top of the African game.
