Ghana's U-17 stars are one win from the WAFU Zone B semifinals, and assistant coach Hamza Mohammed says they know exactly what they want.
Ghana's Black Starlets are one result away from booking a place in the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship semifinals in Ouagadougou, and the West African youngsters are carrying the confidence of a winning start into a pivotal clash with Benin.
The Starlets opened Group A with a 1-0 victory over Togo, with Kwarteng grabbing the only goal. A win over Benin in their second match would guarantee Ghana a spot in the last four, and assistant coach Hamza Mohammed has made it clear the squad is locked in on that target.
"We know they will come hard, but we are focused on securing qualification to the semi-final," Hamza told reporters. "Benin have a very good team; we respect them, but we know who we are and what we want."
Benin will not make it easy. They began their campaign with a goalless draw against hosts Burkina Faso and will be chasing their first win of the tournament to keep their knockout hopes alive. That makes this a high-stakes meeting for both sides.
There is more than a semifinal berth on the line. The tournament doubles as a qualifying route to the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, giving the next generation of West African talent a major stage on which to announce themselves.
