Ghana can book a semi-final place with a second straight win when they take on Benin in Ouagadougou at the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
Ghana's Black Starlets are one win away from a place in the WAFU Zone B U17 semi-finals, and West Africa's next generation of talent is already turning up the heat in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. A victory over Benin in their second Group A fixture would send Kassim Ocansey's side through with a match still to spare.
The Starlets made the ideal start to the 2026 tournament, edging Togo 1-0. David Kwarteng got the only goal of the game, giving Ghana three valuable points and an early grip on the group.
Benin arrive with a different mission. They were held to a goalless draw by hosts Burkina Faso in their opener and still need a first win to keep their own hopes of progressing alive. Stopping Ghana from sealing qualification early would be a major boost for them.
Assistant coach Hamza Mohammed expects a tough test but says the squad is locked in on the goal. "We know they will come hard but we are focused on securing qualification to the semi-final. Benin have a very good team, we respect them but we know who we are and what we want," he said ahead of the clash.
Ghana will draw confidence from their winning start, but the coaching staff will want sharper finishing and full concentration against a Benin side with little to lose. Win, and the Black Starlets move into the knockout rounds with breathing room.
