Boniface Returns to Germany Amid AC Milan Transfer Delay

Share

Nigerian international Victor Boniface has returned to Germany as AC Milan continues to weigh whether to finalise his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen, amid concerns over his fitness.

The 24-year-old striker, who has previously struggled with a right knee injury in 2019 and 2020 and missed several games last season due to muscle issues, underwent medical evaluations with the Rossoneri on Friday and Saturday. The results prompted Milan to take additional time before deciding on the transfer.

Milan sporting director Paolo Tare commented on the situation: “There were no extra medicals. We knew that he had problems in the past; we are evaluating everything as planned with regard to the health and fitness of the player. His qualities are undoubted. We are just trying to make the right decision for this situation.”

Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Milan may ultimately abandon negotiations for Boniface, although a final decision has not yet been made. There remains a possibility that the club could sign Boniface alongside another centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The timing of the decision comes as Milan struggles in the early stages of the Serie A season, losing 2-1 at home to Cremonese in their opening match. Boniface’s potential addition is seen as a measure to bolster the squad’s attacking options amid concerns over depth in the forward line.

Boniface, who scored in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over AC Milan in October 2024, now waits in Germany for Milan’s verdict on his potential move, with both his fitness history and recent injury record under close scrutiny.
