Ghana winger Christopher Bonsu Baah set up Tijjani Reijnders, but a late VAR penalty denied Al Qadsiah victory in Uzbekistan.
Ghana's Christopher Bonsu Baah showed his class in the AFC Champions League Elite on Monday, creating the opener for Al Qadsiah in a 1-1 draw away to Uzbekistan's Pakhtakor. The 21-year-old winger played the final pass for Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders to score in the 35th minute.
The Saudi Arabian side defended that lead for most of the contest, and Bonsu Baah was a constant menace down the flank. His pace and vision kept Pakhtakor's defense stretched, and the visitors looked set to take all three points.
Then came the late twist. Bonsu Baah had been replaced by Suleman Sani in the 80th minute as Al Qadsiah tried to protect their advantage. In the 87th minute, a VAR review gave Pakhtakor a penalty, and Dostonbek Khamdamov converted it in the 89th to level the match for the hosts.
The result was a frustrating one for Al Qadsiah, but the Black Stars international keeps building on a promising 2026/27 campaign. He now has seven goal contributions in 11 appearances across all competitions, with two goals and five assists. His first goal of the season came in Al Qadsiah's 5-0 league win over Al-Kholood.
