Nigeria's Edo Queens and Ghana's Ampem Darkoa get a decisive 30-minute rematch in Cairo to settle the WAFU B spot in the CAF Women's Champions League.
West Africa's fiercest women's club rivalry heads north on Thursday, as Nigeria's Edo Queens and Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies meet in Cairo, Egypt, to settle who represents WAFU B at the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.
The showdown follows a dispute over last month's regional final in Burkina Faso. Edo Queens came out on top 4-1 on penalties after the match finished 2-2 in regulation. Ampem Darkoa then protested, arguing that the rules required 30 minutes of extra time before any shootout, and that the officials skipped straight to spot-kicks.
CAF sided with the Ghanaian champions and ordered the remaining half hour to be played at a neutral venue. Edo Queens challenged the ruling, but CAF's Disciplinary and Appeals Board upheld the protest, which clears the way for Thursday's one-off finish. The Nigerian side flew out to Egypt on Monday to prepare.
The stakes are huge. The winner joins seven other clubs in the 2026 competition, a field that includes holders AS FAR of Morocco, South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and Egypt's FC Masar. For Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa, it comes down to 30 minutes in Cairo for a place among the continent's best.
