Nigeria's Edo Queens are back at CAF's door, demanding the Cairo extra-time finish that sent Ampem Darkoa to the 2026 Champions League be wiped out.
Nigerian side Edo Queens are refusing to let go of the WAFU Zone B crown, filing a fresh protest with CAF to overturn Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies' qualification for the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.
The petition targets the continuation of the final in Cairo, Egypt, on October 29. Edo Queens want that session declared null and void, pointing to concerns about the venue, the match arrangements and player eligibility. Ampem Darkoa came through 3-2 on aggregate, with Afishata Mohammed striking the decisive goal in the 92nd minute of extra time.
The saga began in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5, where the teams drew 2-2. Edo Queens were initially crowned regional champions after winning a penalty shoot-out 4-1. CAF's Organising Committee later ruled that the shoot-out carried no sporting effect and ordered the tie to resume from the start of extra time. The CAF Appeal Board upheld that ruling on October 16.
Edo Queens now argue the Cairo restart did not meet the required conditions, claiming the change of venue was never properly confirmed by WAFU Zone B. They have also raised questions over who was eligible to play. With a Champions League place at stake, all eyes turn to CAF to see whether it will stand by its earlier decisions or reopen a dispute that has already dragged on for weeks.
