Ghana teen William Bediako joins Atlético Madrid on loan

Former Berekum Chelsea midfielder William Bediako, 18, swaps the Ghana Premier League for the Metropolitano on a loan with an option to buy.

Ghana has another young talent heading to one of Europe's big stages. William Bediako, the 18-year-old who came through at Berekum Chelsea, has joined Atlético Madrid on loan, with an option to buy attached.

The midfielder moved to Spain this summer and signed with lower-league side Trival Valderas. They have now sent him on to Atlético, a route that gives him a foothold at a La Liga giant while he settles into life in Spain.

Bediako made 30 Ghana Premier League appearances across two seasons, a solid return for a teenager in a competitive domestic league. He is mostly known as a defensive midfielder, though Berekum Chelsea's farewell message described him as an attacking midfielder, which points to some versatility in his game.

He is expected to start in Atlético's U19 setup, a sensible first step for adapting to the tactical demands, pace and culture of Spanish football. Berekum Chelsea congratulated their former player and wished him all the best in Madrid.

There is a long way to go before he gets near the first team at the Metropolitano, but the opportunity is there. The Ghanaian prospect now has the platform, and what he does with it is up to him.
