Michelle Agyemang, the 20-year-old British-Ghanaian Arsenal forward, has been honoured with an MBE after her starring role in England's Euro 2025 triumph.
Another proud moment for the African diaspora in world football: British-Ghanaian forward Michelle Agyemang has received an MBE at Windsor Castle, with Prince William presenting the medal. At just 20, the Arsenal star has been recognised among the brightest young talents in the women's game.
The honour rewards her part in England's UEFA Women's Championship triumph in 2025. Agyemang struck important goals in the knockout rounds against Sweden and Italy, helping carry the Lionesses to the final. There they beat world champions Spain on penalties to defend their European crown.
Her breakout tournament also brought personal silverware. She was named the competition's best young player and collected the Golden Girl award in 2025. On social media after the ceremony, she wrote that she was "truly honoured" and thanked everyone who has backed her along the way.
She was not the only sporting name in the 2026 honours. Cricket's Isa Guha was recognised for her services to the sport, alongside a group of England rugby stars including Megan Jones, Sadia Kabeya and Sarah Massey.
Beyond the goals and medals, Agyemang is increasingly viewed as a role model for young girls of African heritage who dream of playing at the top level. Her season has yet to get going on the pitch, but her story already shows how far talent with Ghanaian roots can travel.
