Ghana's Marvin Senaya ended four months on the sidelines with a second-half cameo, but Auxerre were hammered 5-1 at Strasbourg.
Marvin Senaya is finally back. The Black Stars defender made his return from a four-month injury layoff for Auxerre in Ligue 1, even though the night ended in a painful 5-1 loss away to Strasbourg.
The Ghanaian full-back came off the bench in the 63rd minute of the Week 9 clash at the Stade de la Meinau, replacing Congo international Christ Makosso. By then the game was slipping away, and Senaya could not stop Strasbourg from running riot.
The hosts were ruthless. Dário Essugo, Hugo Oliveira and Martial Godo all found the net, while Gessime Yassine grabbed a brace to cap a dominant home performance.
Senaya's absence stretched back to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where he suffered a serious injury. The setback meant he missed the start of Auxerre's 2026/27 campaign. Before it struck, he had impressed for Ghana as the Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
The result will sting in Burgundy, but his comeback is a real positive for Ghana. The Black Stars now turn to their double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and having Senaya back in match rhythm is exactly what they need.
