Heart of Lions host Berekum Chelsea in Week 7 of the Ghana Premier League, hungry to bounce back after a 3-1 defeat to champions Medeama.
Ghana Premier League action heads to the Kpando Stadium on Saturday, where Heart of Lions look to shake off a painful loss and get back to winning ways against Berekum Chelsea in Week 7.
Lions arrive stung by a 3-1 defeat to defending champions Medeama in Tarkwa, a result that snapped a two-game winning streak that included victories over Young Apostles and FC AshantiGold 04. They sit 11th with eight points. Coach Kasim Gokyildiz sees positives to build on, but he is clear about what has to change. "We have only to avoid our own mistakes," he said, pointing to the defence as the priority.
Home comfort could help. Lions are unbeaten in three league games at Kpando this season, with one win and two goalless draws. They also own the recent head-to-head at home, having beaten Chelsea 1-0 in both league meetings there since returning to the top flight in 2024/25.
Chelsea come in with momentum after a 3-0 win over Debibi United ended a three-game winless run and lifted them to 13th with seven points, just one behind their hosts. A second straight league win would be a first this season, but the road is their problem. They have lost all three away games, scoring once and conceding seven.
With so little separating the sides in the table, this one has real weight in the scramble for mid-table breathing room. Lions want to tighten up at the back and protect their home form, while Chelsea must prove they can finally deliver away from home.
