Former Ghana international Inaki Williams scored again against Real Sociedad as Athletic Bilbao won a 2-1 Basque derby at San Mamés.
Inaki Williams has done it again. The former Ghana international and Athletic Bilbao captain scored in Sunday's Basque derby, helping his side beat Real Sociedad 2-1 in La Liga at a loud Estadio San Mamés.
Williams needed just 14 minutes to put the hosts ahead. He finished a chance created by his younger brother Nico Williams, and the brothers combined to get Bilbao off to the early lead they wanted.
Sociedad hit back in the 30th minute, when Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic found the net to make it 1-1 and bring the visitors back into the match. Just before the break, Alex Berenguer stepped up and calmly converted a penalty, restoring Bilbao's lead heading into half-time.
The goal adds to Inaki's remarkable record in this fixture. At 32, he now has eight goals in 25 Basque derby appearances against Sociedad, the club he has scored against more than any other in his career.
It also moves him up to second on the list of top scorers in Basque derbies this century. Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal leads that list with nine goals, so Williams is only one behind.
