Ghana's Ernest Nuamah is a fitness doubt for Lyon's trip to Brest after a muscle strain ruled him out of the Europa League draw in San Sebastián.
Ghana's Ernest Nuamah is in a race against time to face Brest, with Lyon still unsure whether the Black Stars winger will be fit for Sunday's Ligue 1 trip. The 23-year-old was left out of Thursday's Europa League meeting with Real Sociedad after picking up a muscle strain.
Lyon still came away with a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta, a hard-fought result on a tough night in Spain. Even so, the club will be watching the medical updates closely as they turn their attention back to domestic action.
Interim manager Jorge Maciel confirmed that Nuamah and defender Moussa Niakhaté are both dealing with muscle problems. He said the club hopes to have the pair back for the Brest game, but admitted nothing is certain yet. Lyon will reassess the situation once the squad returns home and see how both players respond.
Nuamah has been one of Lyon's most dangerous attackers this season, using his pace, direct running and instinct in front of goal to trouble defenders. The former FC Nordsjælland star has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and setting up one more, and he has quickly become a key part of the side.
If the Ghanaian misses out, Lyon lose a major source of speed and threat on the flanks just as they look to build momentum. The next few days of treatment and recovery could decide whether he is back in the mix at Brest.
