Ghana's Prince Kwabena Adu struck early to hand Viktoria Plzen their first Europa League league-phase win of the season in Norway.
Ghanaian forward Prince Kwabena Adu is making his mark on European football's big stage. His 10th-minute strike gave Viktoria Plzen a 1-0 win over Lillestrom at Åråsen Stadion, and with it their first victory of this season's Europa League league phase.
The goal came from a defensive lapse by the hosts. Plzen captain Patrik Hrosovsky won the ball back and slipped a through ball into the box. Adu took control and finished into the far corner, putting the Czech side in front.
Plzen had chances to add a second before the break, but the Lillestrom goalkeeper made several key saves to keep the hosts in the contest. After the interval the Norwegians pushed hard for an equaliser and pinned Plzen back for long spells. The visitors stayed organised and resolute, and they protected their slim advantage until the final whistle.
Adu was withdrawn in the 70th minute after a lively shift up front. The goal gives him one in two appearances in the competition, another sign of African talent delivering in the Czech top flight and on the continental stage.
Plzen now turn to domestic duty. They host AC Sparta Praha on November 8, looking to carry this momentum into a big Czech clash.
