South Africa face a must-respond Test in Gqeberha after Australia took the opener in Durban, with a spicy, rain-threatened day one on the cards.
The Proteas are back on home soil, and the pressure is on. South Africa welcome Australia to St George's Park in Gqeberha, the city many still know as Port Elizabeth, for the second men's Test. They are chasing a response after going behind in the series.
Play is set to begin at 10am local time, which is 9am in the UK and 7pm in eastern Australia. Expect a lively atmosphere and conditions that could shape the opening day. Wet, unsettled weather is part of the conversation, and that tends to make life interesting for batters and bowlers alike.
Australia took the first Test in Durban, and they did it the hard way. They recovered from a batting collapse on day one to claim the win. That kind of resilience is exactly what has made them such a tough opponent on South African soil, where their record is strong.
There is plenty of history behind this contest too. The two sides have a competitive, often tense rivalry, and memories of the last time they met in South Africa have not faded. For the Proteas, this is a chance to answer on their own turf, level the series and show what home-grown Test cricket can deliver.
