Seidatu Wahab Rules Midfield as Black Maidens Sink Canada

Ghana's Seidatu Wahab was named Player of the Match as the Black Maidens beat Canada 2-0 and booked a U-17 Women's World Cup Round of 16 spot.

Ghana's Black Maidens are into the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, and Seidatu Wahab was the engine room behind it. The midfielder was named Player of the Match after Ghana beat Canada 2-0 in the game they needed to win.

Substitutes Linda Achiaa and Christiana Ashiaku got the goals that settled it, but the platform was built long before they came on. Wahab anchored central midfield alongside Jessica Appiah, breaking up Canadian attacks, winning her duels and keeping Ghana's tempo steady with calm, composed use of the ball.

Her defining moment came in the first half, when she produced a perfectly timed last-ditch tackle to stop Canada from creating a clear scoring chance. She also played a part in the build-up to Ghana's opener, showing her influence in both boxes as the Black Maidens took control.

Her positioning did more than shield the back line. It gave Ghana a launchpad every time they won the ball back, letting them move forward with purpose and leaving Canada little room to build through the middle.

The award adds to a strong tournament for Wahab, whose level has risen as the competition has gone on. With the knockout rounds next, Ghana will lean on her again.
