Senegal stamped their authority early, storming into a commanding 21-point lead at half-time with the scores at 46-25. The Bright Stars, inspired by former NBA star Luol Deng, mounted a fightback after the interval, dominating the third quarter 29-16 to cut the deficit to eight points heading into the final period.

However, the Teranga Lions regained control, outscoring their opponents 16-11 in the fourth quarter to seal progression and set up a blockbuster clash with the D’Tigers on Wednesday.

Senegal improved to 2-1 against South Sudan and were led by a game-high 31 points from Brancou Badio. Ibrahima Faye posted 12 points and nine rebounds, while Jean-Jacques Boissy added 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

“We just stayed poised the whole game. it’s a game of momentum, they had their run, but we kept our heads held high, focusing on playing defense,” said Boissy.

For South Sudan, it was the end of their campaign. Both Tut Gach top-scored with 14 points, Nuni Omot contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, while Majok Deng chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.
