Danny Jordaan has been re-elected president of the South African Football Association, defeating AmaZulu owner Sandile Zungu 157-82.
Jordaan maintains his grip on the competition, though a little over a third of the delegates voted against him. Jordaan will remain in charge until 2030.
Jordaan was first elected president of SAFA in 2013. He defeated Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko by 162 votes to 88 at SAFA’s elective congress, succeeding Kirsten Nematandani.
SAFA revealed on Saturday that several delegates had received death threats while others have been harassed and intimidated ahead of the Congress.“
SAFA takes these threats very seriously and the police will be notified accordingly,” a statement said.
“These threats and intimidation are an escalation after the calculated attempts to derail the Elective Congress and cast aspersions about the processes failed to achieve the desired objective.”
